Don't Tread
Design A436
"Courageously display your fearless nature donning a Don’t Tread t-shirt, hoodie, or hat – just add a name. Great gift idea for your patriotic friends.
This personalized design was inspired by the Gadsden flag, designed in 1775 by General Christopher Gadsden during the American Revolution. An anonymous letter written to the Pennsylvania Journal in 1775, suggested that the rattlesnake might be chosen as a symbol for America, noting they are found only in the Americas, and further musing, ""She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. ... she never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her."" Many scholars agree this “American Guesser” was Benjamin Franklin. The US Marines and US Navy still use the Gadsden flag today. You may also notice this emblem of patriotism waving throughout the country at political conventions, tea party rallies, businesses, and houses. To many, the yellow flag with the rattlesnake in a striking position, symbolizes a warning to not tread on their God-given rights."
